Let me start off by wishing a Happy Women’s Day to all the amazing women out there! According to the International Women’s Day website, the theme for this year is #BalanceForBetter. As the phrase suggests it’s all about building a gender-balanced world, something that we’ve been struggling with for generations. This article won’t be a rant however, as today is all about positivity, love, and celebrating women all over. While I went through the official website, there’s one aspect of this year’s theme that I really admired. #BalanceForBetter is not a social media gimmick, but a year wide campaign that provides empowerment and promotes employers to move in a unified direction. Workplace Equality has been a major topic of debate, wherein women struggle with equal pay or finding jobs with their desired & deserved designation. The hierarchy is often seen to be dominated by men, no matter what the industry. Yes, it has gotten better, but not to a point where it’s considered fair. Hence, we expect to see a lot of progress in this sector with the said strategy. The website also, offers several tools and resources, in order to help us do our part, including activity cards, education in schools, research and a lot more.
No single government or association is responsible for the creation of this day and it is only made possible with the collective efforts of all those who care about these wonderful human beings. This day reminds us of all the contributions and achievements of women in our society. It is celebrated to show respect we owe to them. Like I mentioned earlier, let’s make this a year wide thing instead of just one day. I don’t want to be on the toxic side of men, demanding a ‘men’s’ day (though there is one now) History has repeatedly shown us the reality revolving around the struggles of women which are relevant even today. To put it plainly, they’ve been through a lot. I as a student haven’t achieved much obviously, but I see people around me, men around me, who wouldn’t be where they are if it wasn’t for a female around them. I see my very own mom, play such a vital role in my father’s life, and evidently in mine as well. It is a well-established fact that they are far superior to us in terms of emotions and compassion. There is a lot of juggling and compromises involved, which requires a lot of strength.
We may take many pledges but forget the actions that are being required to fulfil those pledges. It’s 2019, let’s just go with we are all equal. About time. Let’s also keep that in mind and not take this day for granted.

Once again, happy women’s day to all you courageous and incredible women. Your presence is inexpressible in few words and so are your deeds. Each one of you has the perfect special role that you are playing in many lives!
